Maize Gametophyte Project Aims

1. Use tertiary trisomic stocks to recover gametophyte lethal mutants
2. Identify mutated genes by sequencing genomic DNA flanking Ac elements
3. Perform preliminary phenotypic analysis of mutant selections
4. Compare male and female gametophyte transcriptomes
5. Set up a maize gametophyte database
6. Test for conserved functions of select gametophyte essential genes in maize and A. thaliana
7. Train undergraduates as science mentors for k-12 students
